Duties :
The candidate will join a team of faculty professor and clinical instructors. He/she will participate in the daily clinical activities at the CHUV. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical:
The position includes a 70% clinical commitment to the small animal emergency and critical care service The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students and residents; providing health care and service to patients; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians of the hospital.

Teaching:
Responsibilities include: 1) participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; 2) clinical teaching in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH); 3) participation in the graduate clinical (resident) training program of the VMTH; and 4) participation in the graduate academic programs (MS and PhD) of the campus.

Research:
The development of a creative, independent and productive basic and/or clinically-oriented research program in emergency and critical care medicine is encouraged, including publication of results in professional/scientific journals. Veterinary Anesthesiologist

Anesthesiologist is a full-time, annual faculty position. Academic rank will be assigned according to the candidate's qualifications and accomplishments.

The Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) program consists of seven semesters of preclinical studies on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean and one year of clinical training at one of 21 veterinary teaching hospitals in the United States. The primary focus at RUSVM is the education of students whose goal is to practice veterinary medicine in the United States. Scientific discovery is another area of emphasis at the School.

Essential Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will help teach principles of anesthesia and pain management to veterinary students in several team-taught courses, including Anesthesiology, Introduction to Clinics, Small Animal Surgery, and Large Animal Surgery. Veterinary Anesthesiology is an integrated lecture and laboratory course designed to introduce fifth-semester students to the principles of and general and local anesthesia of small and large animal species. Responsibilities are shared between several boarded anesthesiologists. Principles learned in the Anesthesia course are applied in the Large and Small Animal surgery courses as well as in the Community Practice. Three experienced anesthesia technicians assist with preparation and instruction of all laboratory sessions. Contributing to the research mission of the School will be encouraged. Engaging in service activities, including faculty meetings, assigned committees, and designated office hours will be expected. Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Dean for Faculty and Academic Programs as needed.

Required Education and Credentials:
DVM degree with board certification or board-eligibility in anesthesiology. A PhD degree in a relevant area of anesthesiology is desired. A primary interest in teaching anesthesiology to veterinary students is an absolute job essential. Experience in teaching these disciplines in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, or an equivalent educational system is required. An applicant for this position must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Applicants should have a strong interest and experience in clinical anesthesiology and instruction of veterinary students. This clinical track position is designed for individuals desiring to work in a busy university surgery setting. The Veterinary Clinical Centre at Charles Sturt University is situated in the regional town of Wagga Wagga, in New South Wales, Australia. The city is approximately half-way between Melbourne and Sydney in the agricultural region known as the Riverina. Candidates with ACVA or ECVAA board certification will be given preference; however, ACVA or ECVAA board-eligible candidates would also be considered. Post-graduate degree and related experience in research is desirable. The responsibilities of this position are divided between teaching anesthesia to veterinary students, supervising the training of interns and residents, providing care for animals admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and research.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the core didactic anesthesia courses as well as at least one of the anesthesia elective courses taught for veterinary students. All faculty members are expected to participate in scholarly activity, but the percent time assigned to research is dependent upon the track selected. The anesthesia department at the University has a long history of progressive research in both anesthesia as well as associated topics, and significant resources are available for the pursuit of research activities. The teaching and service activities in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital are shared with 2 colleagues in anesthesia. A third faculty member is boarded in anesthesia and critical care, and contributes to on-call duties, research, and resident training.
